Matt Cranitch and Tommy O'Sullivan of SLIABH NOTES - TOMMY O'SULLIVAN was born to John L O Sullivan of Lispole, Co. Kerry and Mary Lynch of Garfinny, Dingle, Co. Kerry. He began playing guitar at the age of ten and shortly afterwards moved with his family back to Lispole, five miles east of Dingle. His already keen interest in music was fuelled by the great sessions that he heard locally and in particular in Cahir's Bar, Corofin, where he heard the likes of Mary Bergin, Tony Linnane, Noel Hill, and Paddy Keenan. Tommy has kept a busy international schedule with Paddy Keenan (The Bothy Band) since 1997. While mostly concentrated in the U.S., they also appear regularly in Ireland and at European festivals. For many, his vocal contributions to Sliabh Notes three albums so far ‘Sliabh Notes’, ‘Gleanntan’ and ‘Along Blackwater’s Banks’ and his duet with Paddy Keenan ‘The Long Grazing Acre’ were highlights as much as the musical content. Tommy’s personal view of himself is "a singer who plays as opposed to a player that sings." |

THE DERAILERS In a career that has given rise to more than a decade's worth of fine-tuned, highly anticipated and wonderfully received music, the Derailers continue to build the relationship between song, listener and dance floor. Each album has been a mix of well-crafted original songs and cover songs so thoughtfully chosen and so representative of the band, that fans think they are as original as the band themselves. Challenged by their fans to create a sound that mirrors the shuffle of happy boots on a hardwood floor, the Derailers have fed the hungry dancehall crowds with their classic country beats and a 60s pop sensibility. This Austin-based quartet made quite a splash during Austin's 1996 South By Southwest music festival and were the talk of 6th Street for half a decade. Their first 2 CD's made them poster children for modern-day alt-country - brandishing a love for Merle Haggard and Buck Owens while thumbing their noses at the mainstream Nashville music industry. That combination practically branded them Alamo heroes in the eyes of blues-loving Austinites. |
